Alastair has been involved in the building industry for approximately 29 years and has specialised in the financial management of construction projects in both pre and post contract phases. He has worked on projects ranging from a few thousand through to US$3.5Billion. Prior to coming to Brisbane in 2015, Alastair worked in a number of locations including the UK, USA and the Bahamas. Since joining Halliwell (previously Roberts International Consultants) in 2017, Alastair has developed and applied his knowledge of the insurance sector and the requirements and restrictions of insurance policies on a wide range of projects and provided cost advise for catastrophe recovery as well as individual claims.

With more than 30 years’ experience working in various fields within the administration sector of the legal industry, Mel brings a wealth of knowledge from commercial to construction and engineering to environmental.  Mel has worked the majority of her career in Australia but also spent 15 years working and travelling in the United Kingdom.  Mel started with Halliwell (previously Roberts International Consultants) in June 2018 and quickly became a well-respected and valued member of the team.

With more than 20 years’ experience Julian is familiar with most aspects of construction claims, disputes and their resolution, and has acted on behalf of insurers and insureds on a variety of claim types. He has a broad range of construction knowledge and skills having worked as a QS and a Solicitor/Counsel for a range of clients. A member of the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES), and a member of the Law Society of England & Wales, Julian has worked on projects in the UK, Hong Kong and other parts of Asia, the Middle East and Australia. Julian has been with us since 2015.

With 35 years of working in the construction industry, Paul has the ability and experience to logically navigate most situations that are presented to him across most disciplines in the building industry including quantity surveying, estimating, cost planning, cost management, cost monitoring and contract administration. He has worked on commercial, civil and domestic projects including Defence Works, mining infrastructure and accommodation units. Since joining Halliwell (previously Roberts International Consultants), Paul has been carrying out various quantity surveying functions that are specific to the insurance industry. These functions include preparation of budget estimates for repair works, value at risk valuations, indemnity valuations and reports. Paul has also been auditing contractor’s progress claims and assessing variation claims for insurance repair works.

Graduating in 2002, Marthinus initially worked for a variety of building contractors and subsequently for professional quantity surveying firms. He has a particular interest in estimating and cost planning and brings with him a wealth of experience having worked on a wide range of projects in South Africa and the United Kingdom and now many years in Australia and our surrounding Pacific neighbours. Marthinus joined Halliwell (previously Roberts International Consultants) in 2003, and in 2017 was promoted to the position of Senior Associate. In more recent times Marthinus has worked with our Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu clients on a broad range of insurance claims.

With almost 20 years in both consultancy and construction firms, Paul has a well-balanced experience of quantity surveying skills including estimating, cost planning, cost management, cost monitoring and contract administration. He has worked on commercial, civil and infrastructure projects including multi-storey offices and accommodation units, multi-storey carparks, shopping malls, training facilities, health facilities, water treatment facilities, manufacturing and processing plants, roadworks and airport taxiways. Paul’s approach to identifying scope and assessing cost factors has resulted in a rapid assimilation to our equitable approach to reporting values. Paul joined Halliwell (previously Roberts International Consultants) in March 2015 and in 2020 was promoted to the position of Associate.

With over 20 years of experience in the construction industries across New Zealand and Australia, Gary has sound background in construction and has developed an array of quantity surveying skills including estimating, feasibility and cost planning, procurement and contract negotiations, cost monitoring, cost reporting, and contract administration. He has experience in high density residential, aged care, commercial, hospitality and fit-out, industrial, civil and infrastructure projects.
Since joining Halliwell (previously Roberts International Consultants), Gary has been involved in providing quantity surveying services specific to the insurance industry including preparing budget estimates, Value at risk estimates, monitoring and auditing project costs, indemnity valuations, tender procurement and evaluations.

Mark has nearly 30 years experience working in government owned environments, professional quantity surveying offices, and property developers. He has a well-rounded background in pre-contract and post-contract quantity surveying services. The projects on which Mark has worked encompass a number of sectors including commercial, residential, industrial, defence, aviation, education and mining. While Mark was employed with AirServices Australia he provided estimating support and planning for AirServices $250,000,000 per annuum capital works program as well as cost advice to AirServices finance department on the capital works and insurance valuations.
With Mark’s interest in business and the application of quantity surveying skills, he has been able to analyse and understand client’s business and tailor make services to support clients. Projects supporting this was the revaluation of Queensland TAFE colleges including condition assessments, and detailed asset register and funding plan for the Brisbane Magistrates Court.
Throughout his career Mark has worked in Australia and South Africa and provided further services in Papua New Guinea.

Jackie has been involved in the construction sectors for over 1.5 years, specialising in Quantity Surveying with a focus on Quotation Review, Repair Estimates, Audits, and Cost Reporting. Before moving into construction, Jackie began his career in investment banking, where he developed strong skills in financial modeling and project valuation.
